Kelly Rawlings, PWD type 1, was diagnosed at age 4 and decided on journalism as a career at age 12. She's the editor of Diabetic Living magazine. "I'm proud to be a member of the worldwide community of people who care about diabetes," she says. "PWDs and the health care professionals who work with us are good folks -- dedicated, passionate, outspoken, helpful, inspirational, and caring."

Sheena Chihak, R.D., is a registered dietitian and life-long foodie. She is an on-staff writer for Diabetic Living. "I enjoy working on the recipe stories in Diabetic Living and always hope to share with readers useful techniques they can apply in their home kitchens to cut calories, fat, sodium, and carbohydrates from their favorite foods," she says.


Connie Crawley


Connie Crawley, M.S., R.D., L.D.

Connie Crawley, M.S., R.D., L.D., is a nutrition and health specialist for the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service. A registered dietitian, she has developed cooking and exercise programs for people with diabetes and is currently working on a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention program to improve family support for African-Americans who have diabetes.

Joanne Gallivan, M.S., R.D.

Joanne Gallivan, M.S., R.D., a registered dietitian, is executive director of the National Diabetes Education Program at the National Institutes of Health. In this role, she develops diabetes awareness campaigns and educational materials targeted to people with diabetes and those at risk.


Jeannette Jordan


Jeannette Jordan, M.S., R.D., CDE

Jeannette Jordan, M.S., R.D., CDE, is a consultant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is on the task force for a National Public Health Initiative on Diabetes and Women's Health. A registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator at the Medical University of South Carolina, she has authored a book on weight management for diabetics.


Rachel Martin


Rachel Martin is the editor of Diabetic Living Online and has had a long love for health journalism because it can make a real difference in someone's life. "Diabetic Living is all about helping people live well with diabetes," she says. "It's exciting to work on a project that's so invested in the well-being of others and to hear back from PWDs who have been impacted by Diabetic Living."


Marsha McCulloch


Marsha McCulloch, M.S., R.D., L.D., has more than 12 years of experience as a registered dietitian and has provided her nutrition expertise in outpatient, community, corporate, and college settings. She's currently the nutrition staff writer for Diabetic Living magazine. "Good nutrition is vital to diabetes management and optimal health," she says. "I aim to make it easy for our readers to quickly make the best food choices at the store."


Hope S. Warshaw


Hope S. Warshaw, MMSc, RD, CDE, BC-ADM

Hope S. Warshaw, M.S., R.D., CDE, BC-ADM, is a dietitian, diabetes educator, and writer who has counseled thousands of people with diabetes to make realistic changes in their eating habits individually and through her books. She is the author of numerous books, including the American Diabetes Association's "Real Life Guide to Diabetes", "Guide to Healthy Restaurant Eating" (4th edition), and "Diabetes Meal Planning Made Easy" (3rd edition). Hope serves as a contributing editor to Diabetic Living magazine and DiabeticLivingOnline.com offering timely articles and expert review.


John Zrebiec


John Zrebiec, M.S.W., CDE

John Zrebiec, M.S.W., CDE, is an associate director of the behavioral and mental health unit at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston and a lecturer in the department of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He's a social worker and has served as chairperson of the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators. His research interests include developing tools to prevent hypoglycemia, improving diabetes care through interactive Internet technology, and using group methods to improve adherence to medical recommendations.


Paul Ciechanowski


Paul Ciechanowski, M.D., M.P.H.,

Paul Ciechanowski, M.D., M.P.H., is an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Washington in Seattle. He is researching ways to improve patient-provider communication in the area of diabetes care and is active in programs and research on improving depression care for patients with diabetes. He has been a psychiatric member of the treatment team at the University of Washington's Diabetes Care Center since 1997.


Marion J. Franz


Marion J. Franz, M.S., R.D., L.D., CDE

Marion J. Franz, M.S., R.D., L.D., CDE, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, has authored more than 200 articles and books on diabetes, nutrition, and exercise, including core curriculum materials for diabetes educators. In 2002, she cochaired the task force to write the American Diabetes Association nutrition principles.


Marty Irons


Marty Irons, R.Ph., CDE

Marty Irons, R.Ph., CDE, was one of the first pharmacists in the country to obtain his credentials as a certified diabetes educator. Over the past 20 years, he has practiced in community pharmacies, the military, and industry. He has earned numerous awards, including the New York State Young Pharmacist of the Year, the Orange County Diabetes Coalition Educator of the Year, the Pharmacist Society of Orange County Pharmacist of the Year, and three Pharmacist Society of the State of New York Special Recognition Awards. He currently practices in Rutland, Vermont, at a community pharmacy.


Virginia Zamudio Lange


Virginia Zamudio Lange, R.N., M.S.N., CDE

Virginia Zamudio Lange, R.N., M.S.N., CDE, is an independent diabetes consultant based in San Antonio, Texas. For seven years, she was a partner at Alamo Diabetes Team, LLP, a privately owned diabetes self-management education center. She served as president of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and currently serves as Chair of the AADE Education and Research Foundation. She has written articles for numerous patient publications and professional journals and has presented to national and international audiences about diabetes.


Laura Marzen


Laura Marzen, R.D., L.D., a registered dietitian, reviews and develops recipes, diets, and meal plans for Diabetic Living. "I feel so rewarded when I can create recipes that taste fabulous and are nutritionally appropriate for people with diabetes," says Laura, who calculates nutritional information and exchanges for PWDs. Laura brings experience from the Better Homes and Gardens Test Kitchen to the articles she writes for Diabetic Living and Diabetic Living Online.


Chris Smith


Chris Smith, The Diabetic Che

Chris Smith, The Diabetic Chef ®, holds a culinary degree from the Culinary Institute of America. Since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, he has become a national speaker on diabetes and healthy food preparation. He has also written two cookbooks for the American Diabetes Association and hosted cooking segments on many television programs. He teaches cooking classes for people who have diabetes, emphasizing the pleasure of diabetic cooking and eating.

Fred A. Williams Jr. M.D., FACP, FACE

Fred A. Williams Jr., M.D., FACP, FACE, has a private practice of endocrinology and diabetes in Louisville, Kentucky. He also holds a clinical faculty appointment at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is the chairman of the public relations/media committee of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and also sits on the national board of directors of AACE.
