Champion Rower Scores Victory for Diabetes

If Steven Redgrave's first four Olympic gold medals were a testament to his champion rowing skills, his fifth was a more profound victory -- he won it after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Meet Steven

Steven Redgrave's storied career began when one of his teachers at Great Marlow School in Buckinghamshire, England, sat him in a boat. Hampered by dyslexia, Steve suddenly found himself in a place he could excel.

"I was lucky enough to stumble across a sport where I have a lot of aptitude," Steve says. "People like doing things they're good at. I didn't find the sport so easy that I got bored. The challenge was hard enough to step up and try to push the boundaries." He broke the first boundary in 1980 by making the British National Team and winning a silver medal at the Junior World Championships.
