I have been fighting type 2 diabetes for several years ,I was very careful about following the diabetes recommended diet but found I was having to increase my medication too often for comfort. So I took matters into my own hands and have discovered a high fat, high protein, low carb diet has done wonders for me.I dont use white or whole wheat flour, I don't eat white potatoes, I don't use sugar and have been able to decrease my medication.

My dietician told me to try to have 30-45 carbs per meal and 1-2 carbs for snacks. She is at Baptist Medical Center and they also have weight loss program there besides classes for diabetics. I am diabetic and can have banana's, sugar, corn just have to count carb servings which is 2-3 per meal and 1-2 per snack.

Wow - 30 carbs is way too much for a small slice! I had hoped to get good ideas when I clicked on the link...very disappointed! Try www.deliciously-thin.com instead for truly low carb recipes.

15 grams equals one carb equivalent? If you know how to count carbs you understand this.

I am a diabetic, the problem with dieticians they push certain foods & tell you to avoid others. I was told as well to not eat bananas, what I learned was throw out what they told me & count carbs, if I stick to 30-45 grams of carbs for dinner and under 30 for breakfast & lunch my sugars are well within normal range my A1C is 6.9

Having diabetes doesn't require an automatic ban on sugars. Low-sugar products can raise blood sugar also due to their starch content. What's key is making trades when a dessert is consumed. For example, a lean protein with a nice salad and your dessert, instead of lean protein, salad and baked potato. Corn as well, can be part of a healthy meal for someone w/ diabetes if s/he is careful about other carb sources @ that meal or snack. You might think about seeing a registered dietitian.

What kills me is every time I look at a "diabetic" cookbook, recipe, magazine...I find a ton of things that are no no's...I keep seeing things with corn...my dad can't eat corn, that is one of the main foods he was told to stay away from...& the sweets, some of them use real sugar, or bananas...I just don't understand how this is diabetic eating!?!

Yes, they got my hopes up, too! 30 carbs is way over what I try to eat in one dish.
