Instead of using artificial sugar subtitutes use less or no sugar. I steam fresh fruit w/ vanilla extract and cinnamon for whole grain waffle, pancake, and toast. I made a pie w/fresh apples and blueberries, cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, 1/2 c. water, 1 tsp cornstarch, and a pinch of salt. I don't simmer apples. because I prefer them crisp. In addition, why simmer them if they're going to be baked?
