Watching the number of carbs in each dish is important for every meal. With this menu plan, you won't have to worry about how many carbs you're consuming because we've already checked for you! These meals have 45-75 grams of carb each (3-5 carb choices). Ideally:

Women should have 45-60 grams of carb per meal (3-4 carb choices)
Men should have 60-75 grams of carb per meal (4-5 carb choices)

These guidelines are from the book Basics: Type 2 Diabetes (International Diabetes Center, 2004) and are for people who are looking to maintain their weight and do little physical activity.

lazarus: Ask your Doc about the powdered citrus flavored potassium. It's very salty,so mix it with something tart like cranberry juice, lemonade, ect. Sugarfree, of course. For me, my body absorbs it quicker and better. Check foods like, broccoli, sweet potatoes, lemonade for foods high in this.Go to Google or askjeeves for a high potassium food search or a diabetic dietitian at your local hospital.

I need a diet for diabetes that provides potassium. I take 3750 mg of potassium daily in pill form and it still goes too low now and then. I'm supposed to add it to my diet and wonder what choices I have that will not raise my blood sugar too high. Thanks.
