Taking Care of Your Feet

Q: How should I take care of my feet?

A: During nice weather, it's tempting to walk barefoot around the house or yard or at the beach or pool. Sorry -- but the complications you may experience aren't worth the few moments of foot freedom.

To take good care of your feet:

  • wear well-fitting, enclosed-toe shoes indoors and out
  • wash your feet daily with mild soap and water, then pat dry

Check for changes in:

  • color
  • blisters
  • ulcers
  • calluses
  • dry skin
  • cuts
  • sores

Call your health-care provider if you see any problems developing.

A few years ago, my late wife had complications from Diabetes and suffered from open wounds. I asked the doctor about treatments using Chlorine or bleach. I got a stare. A while later, at the hospital, one of the new treatments for the wounds was, you guessed it, Chlorine. I used it for my toe recently.

why does the ball of my feet hurt and why do my toes go numb? Some times I don't know where my toes are. and to bend them up or down really hurts. also, they are usually swollen.
