For no-cost numbing of the injection site, numb the skin with an ice cube, says Paul Strumph, M.D., vice president and chief medical officer for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International in New York City. Apply the cube for a few seconds, then sterilize the injection site with an alcohol swab.
