Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes Symptoms

When a Diagnosis Means Relief

Some people we talked to were relieved to be diagnosed with diabetes because it meant there was a reason they were experiencing such strange symptoms.

"Glad to know there was a reason I felt bad. I didn't know how sick I was till I got better."
MSTKWalters (submitted online)

"Relief, now I know what's happening to me."
Barrie, type 2 since 1993
Brooklyn

"After being diagnosed, I was actually relieved to finally treat the problem. I feel great now and am very diligent in my diabetes management."
Carla, type 2 since 2006
Tulalip, Washington

I don't know if I'm diabetic yet. I went to Rheumatology for other reasons and my HGB A1C came back at 6.1. I read that >5.5 - 6 meant elevated glucose, and >6 = a diagnosis of early DM. I can't get in to see Endocrine until March, so I'm going to ask my PCP to run another HGB A1c as well as fasting bld sugar, Glucose tolerance, and whatever else he can think of. My Grandfather has ins dep DM and died blind and with a BTK amp. That won't be me. -Michelle, 47 yo - Tucson AZ
