Research repeatedly shows that, in moderation, sweets can fit in a healthful diabetes meal plan. And when it comes to control, people who give themselves permission to enjoy some treats seem to crave them less.
"It's amazing how many type 2s are eating sweets but think they shouldn't," says Linda M. Delahanty, R.D., director of nutrition and behavioral research at the Diabetes Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. "So they just trade cravings for guilt."
Cravings can happen anywhere, any time of year, and often when you're least expecting them. We'll show you how to fend them off in three circumstances: daily, before a food-focused event, and when tempting foods stare you in the face. Practice these tips, and at your next party you'll have more control over the cake and your blood glucose, too.
"It's important to learn when and how to give in, and when it's better to distract yourself," Delahanty says. Here's how.

8/17/2010 02:51:07 AM Report AbuseMy husband was recently diagnosed as being diabetic. Your site is a Godsend of info... Anyone who wants anything from your magazines to anything else that comes up in a pop-up will take care of business by themselves. I'd love to have the articles, exercises, etc. printed so that I didn't have to print a million pages to get several recipes, etc. Please assume that we can really subscribe, etc. without a gazillion reminders.

8/10/2010 10:33:00 AM Report AbuseI can't tell you how many times I navigate away from this site because of the annoying pop-ups. Will somebody in marketing please get the point?
8/10/2010 10:19:41 AM Report AbusePlease change the website so that the articles are not so chopped up and so many pop ups.
8/3/2010 09:45:56 AM Report AbuseI'll agree there are lots of pop-ups, but this is a GREAT site for diabetics. I can't tell you how many recipes I have printed and how they along with your articles on self-management have helped me become successful in keeping my levels constant and low. Thanks Diabetic Living!! CJ
